UNIKL BMI LASER POINTER PHOTORESISTOR ARDUINO UNO R3

WEEK 2 FYP 2

Date: 15/09/2014 (Monday)
Title:  Purchase and setup hardware

1) Laser Pointer

The Laser pointer that have been purchased was the normal Laser Pointer .This laser pointer is easy to use and affordable. It uses the concept of “plug and play” which means that it does not requires any special installation software or driver to work and it used small current and voltage to operated .In default setting, this laser pointer will work as input. It means that laser will continues ON.
Some of the features of this barcode scanner :

· Light and cheap

· Easy to operate

The specification of the laser pointer :

Max output:<5mW.
Wave length:650nm+/– 10.
Class IIIA Laser products.
It complies with 21CFR,
Extensive lifetime of LED (100,000 hrs).
Low power consumption.
Water resistant.

The laser pointer has to be tested first to determine if it is workable and ready to use. An unworkable device will be a liability to the project and will result in time delay to finish the project.

2) Arduino Mega 2560 uno R3

I uses The Arduino Mega is a microcontroller board based on the ATmega1280 because It has 54 digital input/output pins (of which 14 can be used as PWM outputs), 16 analog inputs, 4 UARTs (hardware serial ports), a 16 MHz crystal oscillator, a USB connection, a power jack, an ICSP header, and a reset button. It contains everything needed to support the microcontroller; simply connect it to a computer with a USB cable or power it with a AC-to-DC adapter or battery to get started. The Mega is compatible with most shields designed for the Arduino Duemilanove or Diecimila.

Specification

  • ATmega2560 microcontroller
  • Input voltage - 7-12V
  • 54 Digital I/O Pins (14 PWM outputs)
  • 16 Analog Inputs
  • 256k Flash Memory
  • 16Mhz Clock Speed
3) Liquid Crystal Display (LCD)

I use 20 x 4 LCD for my project because it can be display many character in one times and cheap.

Some Features of LCD:

• +5V DC LED backlight
• Don't need separate power supply for backlight
• Supported 4 or 8 bit parallel interface
• Display 4-line X 20-character
• Operate with 5V DC
• Free 16 positions male header

Specifications:

• Module Size (W x H x T): 98mm X 60mm X 14mm
• Black Metal Bezel (W x H): 98mm X 40mm
• Viewing Area (W x H): 76mm X 25.2mm

Items included:

• 20x4 White on Blue Character LCD
• 16 positions male header

4) Keypad 4 X 4

The keypad that i used is 4 x 4 keypad. Because it has many button to use as password for security ,furthermore  it also cheap and easy to operate.

Key Features:
·         Ultra-thin design & adhesive backing provides easy integration to any project
·         Excellent price-performance ratio
·         Easy communication with any microcontroller

Application Ideas:
·         Security systems
·         Menu selection
·         Data entry for embedded systems
